Spam Mayo Rice Bowl: A Satisfying and Delicious Meal
Simple Dinner Menu Recommendation! Enjoy Spam Mayo Rice Bowl for solo or shared meals.
I find my meal times incredibly peaceful when I’m eating alone. While I don’t mind what I cook for my family, I tend to fuss a bit more when my husband’s work schedule has him coming home early. He’s not one to complain, but I find myself thinking about what to make for dinner on his way home. After a long day of work, the last thing I want is to prepare an elaborate meal, so I often brainstorm simple and quick recipes. Today, I’ve decided on Spam Mayo Rice Bowl! It’s incredibly easy to make, requiring just a simple stir-fry, yet it’s packed with flavor. It’s a great option for a hearty solo meal or a delightful dish to share with others. If you find spam a bit too rich, adding finely chopped chili peppers will cut through the richness and add a pleasant kick, making it a wonderful dish for adults too. Main Ingredients
- Canned Spam 200g (2 cans of 100g each)
- 1 Onion
- 1/2 Carrot
- 3 Eggs
- 1 Green onion
- 2 Korean chili peppers (optional)
- 1 packet Seasoned seaweed (gim)
- Pinch of black pepper
- Mayonnaise, to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients needed for the recipe. (This recipe is for 2 servings, but you can easily adjust the quantities to serve 3-4 people.)
Step 2
Finely dice the half carrot, one onion, and 200g of canned Spam. Cutting them into small pieces will help them mix well and cook faster.
Step 3
Crumble the seasoned seaweed. To do this easily and without getting your hands messy, gently tear open a corner of the seaweed packet and crush the seaweed inside the bag. Releasing some air from the packet before crushing will make it easier. Be careful not to crush it too forcefully, as this might release the preservatives inside.
Step 4
Crack 3 eggs into a bowl and whisk them thoroughly. I initially considered using just two eggs, but realized that three would make the dish richer and more voluminous once cooked.
Step 5
Preheat a frying pan over medium heat. Add the Spam to the dry pan and stir-fry it without any added oil. Spam releases its own fat as it cooks, so you don’t need to add extra. Continue to cook until the Spam is golden brown and looks appetizing.
Step 6
Once the Spam is nicely browned, add the diced carrots and onions to the pan. Stir-fry them along with the Spam. Avoid using high heat, as this can burn the vegetables. Maintain medium heat and cook until the vegetables become translucent. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
Step 7
Sprinkle a pinch of black pepper over the ingredients in the pan to enhance the flavor. Stir everything together gently.
Step 8
Pour the whisked eggs into the pan. Use a chopstick or spatula to scramble the eggs as they cook, mixing them with the other ingredients. Stir gently until the eggs are softly set.
Step 9
Add the chopped green onion and the two Korean chili peppers (if using) and mix quickly. If you are serving this to children or prefer a milder flavor, you can omit the chili peppers. The green onion can also be omitted based on preference, but I find that adding both chili peppers and green onion adds a richer depth of flavor.
Step 10
Once all ingredients are well combined, turn off the heat. Add the crumbled seasoned seaweed and gently mix it in. Turning off the heat before adding the seaweed helps maintain some of its crispiness while allowing it to meld with the other ingredients.
Step 11
Your delicious Spam Mayo Rice Bowl is ready! Serve this mixture generously over a bowl of warm rice. Drizzle with mayonnaise in a zigzag pattern according to your preference and mix well before eating. The mayonnaise adds a wonderful nutty and savory flavor, making it even more delicious. If you’re not a fan of mayonnaise, you can certainly skip it. Enjoy your fulfilling meal with this customizable Spam Mayo Rice Bowl!
