  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the ingredients for your delicious soy-braised potatoes, a perfect side dish for any meal. We’ll use 3 medium-sized potatoes for a fluffy texture.

Step 2

Peel the potatoes using a peeler and cut them into bite-sized cubes. Rinse the cut potatoes under running water, then soak them in cold water for about 10 minutes to remove excess starch. This step helps prevent the potatoes from sticking together or breaking apart during the braising process.

Step 3

Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the drained potatoes and stir-fry gently for 2-3 minutes until they become slightly translucent. Coating the potato surface with oil helps them absorb the sauce better and improves their texture.

Step 4

Pour 1 cup (200ml) of water into the pan with the potatoes.

Step 5

Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Stir to ensure the sugar dissolves completely in the water.

Step 6

Once the liquid starts boiling, reduce the heat to medium and add 3 tablespoons of soy sauce. Stir to distribute the soy sauce evenly among the potatoes.

Step 7

Add 0.5 tablespoon of minced garlic and continue to braise until the potatoes are cooked through. Occasionally, open the lid and spoon some of the sauce over the potatoes to enhance the flavor. The potatoes are ready when they can be easily pierced with a fork.

Step 8

When the sauce has thickened to your liking (it should be slightly syrupy), stir in 1.5 tablespoons of corn syrup or oligosaccharide. This adds a nice sheen and balances the sweetness.

Step 9

Turn off the heat. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Gently mix everything together. Your delicious soy-braised potatoes are now ready to be enjoyed with a warm bowl of rice!
