Ingredients
  • 1 cup well-fermented kimchi (approx. 200g), chopped
  • 1 cup dried shrimp (approx. 50g)
  • 1 cup pancake mix (buchim garu, approx. 120g)
  • 1 cup tempura flour (twigim garu, approx. 100g)
  • 1.5 cups cold water (approx. 300ml)
  • Cooking oil, for frying

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the pancake mix and tempura flour. Gradually pour in 1.5 cups of cold water while whisking with a fork or whisk until you have a smooth batter with no lumps. The batter should be pourable, not too thick or too thin.

Step 2

Add the chopped kimchi to the bowl. Mix thoroughly to ensure the kimchi is evenly distributed and coated with the batter. If there are any clumps of kimchi, break them apart with your utensil to coat each piece well.

Step 3

Now, add the star ingredient: dried shrimp. Gently fold the dried shrimp into the batter, mixing just enough to combine. This step ensures your pancake will have that amazing crunch and savory flavor.

Step 4

Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and generously add cooking oil. Once the pan is hot, ladle portions of the kimchi batter onto the hot oil, spreading them into thin, round pancakes.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook until the edges are golden brown and crispy. Flip the pancake and cook the other side until also golden brown and cooked through. Serve immediately while hot to enjoy the delightful crispiness of the dried shrimp and the savory kimchi!
