  • 1/2 Onion, sliced
  • 1 Green onion, chopped
  • A little cooking oil

  • 2 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or sake)
  • 0.5 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 0.5 Tbsp curry powder
  • 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 0.5 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 Tbsp plum extract (maesilcheong)
  • 0.5 Tbsp vinegar
  • 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Pinch of sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Begin by preparing all your ingredients. Having everything ready beforehand makes the cooking process smooth and efficient.

Step 2

Prepare the vegetables: remove the seeds from the yellow bell pepper and slice it. Slice the onion. Chop the green onion. Slicing the vegetables to a similar size will ensure even cooking.

Step 3

Gently press the thinly sliced beef with paper towels to remove any excess blood. This step is crucial for a clean flavor without any gamey taste.

Step 4

Heat a little cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Once the garlic aroma is released, add the beef slices. Stir in the cooking wine, brown sugar, and curry powder, and stir-fry until the beef is mostly cooked through.

Step 5

When the beef loses its pink color, add the sliced onion to the pan. Continue to stir-fry until the onion becomes slightly translucent, which will enhance its natural sweetness.

Step 6

Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and plum extract. Stir well to coat the beef and vegetables evenly. Cook for 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to penetrate the ingredients for maximum flavor.

Step 7

Add the sliced yellow bell pepper to the pan. Stir-fry gently for a short time to keep them crisp and vibrant. Be careful not to overcook, as bell peppers lose their crunch when cooked for too long.

Step 8

Finally, add the vinegar and stir-fry for about 10 seconds to evaporate the strong vinegary smell. Then, season with black pepper and finish with a drizzle of sesame oil and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added aroma and flavor.

Step 9

Toss in the chopped green onions and stir briefly just until combined, using the residual heat of the pan after turning off the stove. This will keep the green onions fresh and aromatic.

Step 10

Your beautiful and delicious Colorful Bell Pepper and Beef Stir-fry is now ready! Enjoy it with a warm bowl of rice.
