Main Ingredients
  • Beef (for soup) 250g
  • Korean Radish 1/2 medium (approx. 500g)
  • Green Onion 1/2 stalk

Seasoning & Broth
  • Sesame Oil 1 Tbsp
  • Soy Sauce for Soup (Guk-ganjang) 3 Tbsp
  • Minced Garlic 1/2 Tbsp
  • Water 1L
  • Salt to taste
  • Black Pepper to taste

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a deep pot over medium heat. The fragrant aroma of sesame oil indicates it’s ready.

Step 2

Add the beef (250g, for soup), which has had excess liquid drained, to the pot. Sauté the beef until it turns golden brown on all sides. Browning the beef enhances the depth of flavor in the broth.

Step 3

Once the beef has changed color, add the Korean radish (approx. 500g), cut into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3cm cubes or slices). Stir-fry the radish together with the beef. At this stage, add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce for soup (Guk-ganjang) and stir-fry to allow the radish to absorb the flavor, which will enrich the soup’s taste.

Step 4

Continue to stir-fry the radish and beef for about 3 to 4 minutes. Sauté until the radish begins to release some moisture and looks slightly glossy. This step ensures the radish becomes tender and delicious when boiled.

Step 5

Pour in 1 liter of water and add 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover the pot and let it simmer gently for about 30 minutes. It’s crucial to simmer until the radish becomes translucent and tender.

Step 6

Once the radish is sufficiently cooked, remove the lid. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of soy sauce for soup (Guk-ganjang) to season. Add a pinch of black pepper according to your preference. Stir in the sliced green onion (1/2 stalk) and let it simmer briefly. This allows the fresh aroma of the green onions to infuse into the soup.

Step 7

Finally, taste the broth and adjust the seasoning with salt as needed. Once seasoned to your liking, turn off the heat immediately and serve. Enjoy a satisfying and heartwarming meal with a bowl of hot rice!
