Main Ingredients
  • 1 bowl of cooked rice
  • 2 frankfurter sausages
  • 1 can of spicy tuna
  • 2 perilla leaves
  • 2 sheets of kimbap seaweed (nori)

Seasoning & Flavoring
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • A dash of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Begin by preparing all the ingredients for your Rice Burger Kimbap. Rinse the sausages under running water.

Step 2

In a bowl, combine 1 bowl of warm cooked rice with the drained spicy tuna, 1 pinch of salt, a dash of black pepper, 1 Tbsp of sesame seeds, and 1 Tbsp of sesame oil. You can add a little bit of the tuna can’s liquid for extra moisture and flavor.

Step 3

Gently mix the ingredients with a spatula, being careful not to mash the rice grains. It’s important to mix thoroughly until no plain white rice is visible, ensuring the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Step 4

Take a sheet of kimbap seaweed and make 4 cuts from the edges towards the center, dividing it into three equal vertical strips. This will create flaps that help wrap the rice.

Step 5

Place a generous amount of the seasoned rice mixture onto the center of the prepared seaweed sheet. Mound it up nicely.

Step 6

Carefully lift the two side flaps (created by the cuts) and bring them up to enclose one side of the rice, pressing gently to adhere. Think of it like forming a cup or a bowl with the rice.

Step 7

Repeat the process with the other side flap, bringing it up to cover the remaining exposed rice. The rice should now be partially enclosed, resembling a half-moon shape.

Step 8

The remaining top part of the seaweed should be folded over to cover the top of the rice, just like wrapping a gift. Tuck it in neatly to ensure the rice is fully enclosed and secure.

Step 9

Flip the wrapped rice over and roll the remaining seaweed from the bottom up, similar to rolling a traditional kimbap, to complete the basic shape of your Rice Burger Kimbap.

Step 10

Prepare the frankfurter sausages by slicing them diagonally. Making a lattice or ‘honeycomb’ pattern cut on the sausages will make them look appealing when cooked. Briefly blanch them in boiling water.

Step 11

Heat a pan with a little oil and cook the blanched sausages until they are golden brown and nicely seared on all sides, including the cut surfaces. Grilling them also works well.

Step 12

Cut the prepared Rice Burger Kimbap in half, leaving the ends intact. For a cleaner cut, dampen your knife with water to prevent the rice from sticking.

Step 13

Place a perilla leaf on the cut surface of the Rice Burger Kimbap. Then, add the beautifully seared frankfurter sausage on top of the perilla leaf.

Step 14

Drizzle with ketchup and mustard in a zigzag pattern, according to your preference. Adjust the amount of sauce to your liking.

Step 15

Arrange the finished Rice Burger Kimbap on a serving plate. You’ve now created a delicious and visually appealing meal that everyone will love! Enjoy!
