Sweet and Tangy Pickled Onions
The Essential Side Dish for Meat! Easy Recipe for Pickled Onions
Onions are a truly wonderful vegetable, packed with antioxidants and known to help lower cholesterol levels! They’re so beneficial that many include onion juice in their diet. Today, we’ll be making pickled onions using this amazing ingredient – a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and wonderfully crisp!
Main Ingredients
- 1 medium onion
Sweet and Tangy Dressing
- 5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 5 Tbsp vinegar
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp water
- Pinch of black pepper (a few grinds)
- 5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 5 Tbsp vinegar
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp water
- Pinch of black pepper (a few grinds)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the onion thoroughly, peel off the skin, and then slice it into very thin strips. Slicing them thinly will result in a crispier texture and allow the dressing to penetrate better. Soak the thinly sliced onions in cold water for about 10 minutes. This step helps to mellow out their pungency and enhance their crispness. After soaking, drain the onions well in a colander to remove excess water.
Step 2
Now, let’s make the delicious dressing! In a small bowl, combine 5 tablespoons of soy sauce, 5 tablespoons of vinegar, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 2 tablespoons of water. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved. Finally, add a pinch of freshly ground black pepper for an aromatic touch. Once your dressing is ready, pour it over the drained onions and toss gently to ensure they are evenly coated.
Step 3
Transfer the dressed onions to a serving dish, and your perfectly sweet, tangy, and crisp pickled onions are ready! You can enjoy them immediately, but for an even better flavor, chilling them in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes is recommended. These pickled onions are a fantastic accompaniment to grilled meats, pork belly, fried chicken, and so much more. Enjoy!
