Gimbap Ingredients
  • 2 sheets of Gimbap seaweed
  • 1 bowl of warm rice
  • 1 piece of pink sausage (cut to gimbap sheet length)
  • 2 fresh eggs
  • 1 slice of cheese

Rice Seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 pinch of salt (to taste)
  • 1 pinch of sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Cut the pink sausage lengthwise to match the width of your gimbap seaweed sheet. Then, carefully carve a rounded groove in the center of the cut surface. (Tip: If carving is difficult, you can cut the sausage lengthwise, then in half, to make smaller 1/4-sized gimbaps that are also very cute.)

Step 2

Blanch the pink sausage with the carved groove in boiling water. After blanching, rinse with cold water and let it cool; this helps the shape hold better.

Step 3

Crack the 2 eggs into a bowl, add a pinch of salt, and whisk well. Heat a pan over low heat, pour in the egg mixture, and slowly roll it up to create an omelet, being careful not to burn it.

Step 4

Lay out plastic wrap on a bamboo rolling mat, and place the gimbap seaweed sheet on top to start shaping. Let the rolled omelet cool down slightly. (Tip: Gently pressing the omelet while it’s warm can help shape it better for rolling.)

Step 5

In a bowl with 1 bowl of warm rice, add 1 Tbsp of sesame oil, 1 pinch of salt, and 1 pinch of sesame seeds. Gently mix with your hands to season the rice for the gimbap.

Step 6

First, carefully place the cooled rolled omelet into the groove of the pink sausage. Ensure it fits snugly inside the sausage.

Step 7

Place the shaped sausage and omelet onto the seaweed sheet. Roll the seaweed sheet once around the filling to help secure it. This makes it much easier to roll the entire gimbap.

Step 8

After the initial roll with seaweed, spread the seasoned rice thinly over the gimbap seaweed. Begin filling the rice from the end where the sausage and omelet are, pressing the rice firmly to ensure it doesn’t come apart.

Step 9

Now, spread the rice evenly on the seaweed. Place the prepared sausage and omelet in the center, and then roll the gimbap up tightly. It’s important to roll it firmly so the rice encases the fillings well.

Step 10

When rolling the gimbap, pay attention to positioning the omelet in the center. This ensures the mushroom shape looks appealing when sliced.

Step 11

Using a sharp knife, slice the gimbap into bite-sized pieces. As you slice, the cross-section will reveal the Super Mario mushroom shape. (Tip: You can also decorate with other character shapes besides mushrooms, which kids will love even more!)

Step 12

Use a round cookie cutter to cut out shapes from the slice of cheese and attach them to the top of the mushroom to represent the cap. Use a seaweed punch to create eyes and a mouth, completing the mushroom face. Enjoy your cute Super Mario Mushroom Gimbap!
