Main Ingredients
- Tteokbokki rice cakes 400g (soaked until soft)
- Fish cakes 3 sheets
- Shredded cabbage 1 bowlful
- Beef bone broth 200ml
- Water 400ml
- Arrabbiata spaghetti sauce 200ml
- Salt 1/3 Tbsp (adjust to taste)
- Minced garlic 1 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the tteokbokki rice cakes. If they are hard, soak them in warm water until they become soft and pliable. (Stiff rice cakes can be as tough to chew as bare tree branches in winter!)
Step 2
Prepare 200ml of beef bone broth, the key to its rich savory flavor. Feel free to add more broth if you have extra.
Step 3
Measure out 400ml of water. (If you rinse the container used for the bone broth, the water might appear cloudy, but it’s simply fresh water.)
Step 4
In a wide wok or pot, combine the water and beef bone broth. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat.
Step 5
Add 3 sheets of fish cake. If using frozen fish cakes, you can add them directly without thawing. Add them whole without cutting.
Step 6
Pour in 200ml of Arrabbiata spaghetti sauce, known for its appealing spicy flavor from tomatoes and red pepper. Use your favorite brand.
Step 7
Add the softened tteokbokki rice cakes and let them simmer together.
Step 8
Add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic to enhance the aroma and flavor.
Step 9
While the fish cakes are simmering, use tongs to grip and twist them, then cut them into bite-sized pieces with scissors directly in the pot. (This method allows you to cut the fish cakes neatly without removing them.)
Step 10
Here you see the neatly cut fish cakes and various seasonings simmering together.
Step 11
Add 1/3 Tbsp of salt. It’s best to start with a small amount and adjust the seasoning to your taste as you go. It’s difficult to fix if it’s too salty, so season very cautiously.
Step 12
Prepare a bowlful of shredded cabbage. Make sure to wash it thoroughly before adding.
Step 13
Let everything simmer together for a bit longer to allow the flavors to meld. You can also add a pinch of black pepper at this stage for extra depth.
Step 14
If you enjoy a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to your liking.
Step 15
Generously sprinkle red pepper flakes for those who love heat. (If serving to children, please be mindful of the spice level.)
Step 16
Finally, sprinkle a generous amount of Parmesan cheese. This elevates the flavor, completing your unique Tteokbokki Spaghetti. Enjoy your delicious meal!
