Main Ingredients
  • 1 can (230g) Canned Whelks
  • 1/4 Cucumber
  • 1/4 Onion
  • 50g Somyeon (thin Korean wheat noodles)
  • 1 handful Scallions, thinly sliced or julienned
  • A pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • A little Sesame Oil

Spicy & Sweet Dressing Ingredients
  • 3 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 0.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 0.5 Tbsp Sesame Oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, bring a pot of water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt to the boiling water and cook the somyeon noodles. Once cooked, rinse them thoroughly under cold water to remove excess starch and drain well. To prevent sticking and add a nutty aroma, toss the drained noodles with a little sesame oil.

Step 2

Wash and thinly slice the cucumber and onion. Prepare the scallions by slicing them thinly or cutting them into thin strips. In a large bowl, combine the sliced vegetables and all the dressing ingredients: gochujang, vinegar, sugar, gochugaru, minced garlic, and sesame oil. Gently mix everything together with your hands until the vegetables are evenly coated with the dressing. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the vegetables mushy.

Step 3

Arrange the dressed vegetables attractively on a serving plate or bowl. Drain the canned whelks from their liquid and place them on top of the dressed vegetables. Finally, add the cooked somyeon noodles alongside the vegetables and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a beautiful finish. Your delicious Golbaengi Muchim is ready to be enjoyed!
