Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 Onion (appropriate amount)
  • 1/2 Green Onion (appropriate amount)
  • 1/4 Carrot (appropriate amount)
  • 1 Korean Green Chili Pepper

Seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 2 Tbsp Cooking Wine (Mirin)
  • 1/2 Tbsp Sugar
  • Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
  • 2 Tbsp Canola Oil (or cooking oil)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Briefly blanch the fresh baby octopus in boiling water for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Rinse under cold water and drain. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become tough.

Step 2

Thinly slice the Korean green chili pepper on an angle. Cut the green onion into long pieces. Slice the onion into thin strips. Julienne the carrot so it retains a crisp texture.

Step 3

Combine the blanched baby octopus and all the prepared vegetables in a bowl.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, mix together 1 Tbsp gochujang, 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce, 1/2 Tbsp sugar, 2 Tbsp cooking wine, 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru to create the sauce.

Step 5

Heat 2 Tbsp of canola oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the prepared sauce and stir briefly to release its aroma.

Step 6

Once the sauce has slightly dissolved, add the baby octopus and vegetables to the pan. Stir-fry quickly over high heat for about 2-3 minutes. Stir-frying until the vegetables are just tender-crisp will give them a pleasant crunch.

Step 7

Just before finishing, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Give it a final quick toss.

Step 8

Serve generously over a bowl of warm rice. Mix well and enjoy your delicious baby octopus rice bowl!
