Soy Sauce Braised Chicken Wings (Baek Jong-won Style)
Mastering Baek Jong-won’s Recipe: Super Easy Sweet & Savory Soy Braised Chicken Wings (Chicken Wing Recipe)
Hello everyone! Today, I’m recreating Baek Jong-won’s soy braised chicken wings recipe from ‘Master in the House 2’. I used only chicken wingettes, easily found at the supermarket, making this recipe accessible to everyone. This dish, with its delicious soy-based sauce, offers a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors, making it a hit with kids and a fantastic appetizer or side for drinks. Let’s get cooking!
Ingredients
- 500g chicken wingettes
- 1 cup water (200ml)
- 1/2 cup sugar (100ml)
- 1/2 cup cooking wine (like mirin) (100ml)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (100ml)
- 1 stalk green onion
- 1/4 carrot
- 1 swirl sesame oil (approx. 1 tsp)
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the chicken wingettes under running water about twice. This helps to remove any unwanted odors from the chicken.
Step 2
Place all the rinsed chicken wingettes into a wide pot. Add 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of cooking wine, and 1/2 cup of soy sauce. Also, toss in the green onion, cut into large pieces, and the quartered carrot. Cutting the vegetables into larger chunks helps them maintain their shape after cooking and prevents the sauce from becoming too concentrated.
Step 3
Now, turn the heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, stir gently with a spatula to ensure the sugar dissolves completely. It’s important to mix the sauce ingredients evenly.
Step 4
When the sauce starts to boil vigorously, adjust the heat. Cook on high heat for 5 minutes, then reduce to medium heat and simmer for another 10 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken and the chicken to absorb the flavors. Once the sauce reaches your desired consistency (slightly thick and saucy), turn off the heat and drizzle in a swirl of sesame oil for a nutty aroma.
Step 5
Transfer the finished soy braised chicken wings to a serving plate. Sprinkle generously with sesame seeds for a beautiful presentation and enhanced flavor. Enjoy your delicious homemade soy braised chicken wings while they are warm!
