Soft and Savory Crab Stick Fritters (Kuraemi Jeon)
Super Simple Side Dish: Delicious Kuraemi Jeon Recipe
Do you remember my previous post about fried imitation crab sticks? Imitation crab meat is delicious whether added to rolled omelets, kimbap, or fried. This time, we’re making ‘Kuraemi Jeon,’ a simple pan-fried dish coated in egg batter. Using crab sticks specifically enhances the soft and savory flavor, making it a perfect, easy side dish for meals, a delightful baby food, or a convenient addition to your lunchbox. Let’s get started on this incredibly simple recipe that comes together in a flash!
Main Ingredients
- Crab sticks (Kuraemi)
- Eggs
- Cooking oil (for pan-frying)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, in a wide, shallow dish, crack 2-3 eggs and whisk them well. This dish should be large enough to easily dip the crab sticks into the egg batter.
Step 2
While you can pan-fry the crab sticks whole, for a more manageable size, cut them in half. If your crab sticks are particularly thick, slicing them lengthwise into two halves works well. Crab sticks are usually seasoned, so you likely won’t need to add any extra salt.
Step 3
Now, dip the prepared crab stick halves into the whisked egg batter from step 1, ensuring they are evenly coated. Heat a pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Place the egg-coated crab sticks into the hot pan and begin to cook.
Step 4
It’s important to maintain a medium to low heat while frying the Kuraemi Jeon to ensure they cook through evenly without burning. Once the egg batter turns golden brown and the crab sticks are heated through, your delicious Kuraemi Jeon is ready! Isn’t that incredibly simple?
Step 5
These finished Kuraemi Jeon are so flavorful on their own that you don’t necessarily need a dipping sauce. However, if you prefer, you can lightly dip them in ketchup or soy sauce. Given the natural saltiness of the crab sticks and the richness of the egg, they are delicious just as they are. Enjoy this surprisingly tasty dish, perfect as a quick side or even a simple snack! 😀
