Main Ingredients
- 1/2 avocado
- Smoked salmon (to taste)
- Dried seaweed sheets (for roasting)
- 1 pack nattō (including mustard and soy sauce packets)
Sauces & Seasonings
- Tartar sauce (to taste)
- Parsley flakes or basil flakes
- Tartar sauce (to taste)
- Parsley flakes or basil flakes
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the Ingredients: The start of any great dish is fresh ingredients. Get your smoked salmon (I used one from Costco), half an avocado that was leftover, and your nattō ready.
Step 2
Prepare the Avocado: Remove the pit from half an avocado. You can easily do this by carefully inserting your knife into the pit and twisting. Once the pit is out, peel the avocado.
Step 3
Slice the Avocado: Slice the peeled avocado into thin strips. Its creamy texture and rich flavor will beautifully complement the other ingredients.
Step 4
Prepare the Nattō: Open the nattō and add the included mustard and soy sauce packets. Stir vigorously until it becomes foamy and stringy. The more you stir, the better the flavor develops!
Step 5
Roast Seaweed & Add Salmon: Lightly roast the dried seaweed sheets on a pan to enhance their crispiness. If the sheets are too large, cut them into bite-sized pieces. (Tip: If you’re not eating it immediately, it’s best to add the salmon later to prevent the seaweed from becoming soggy.) Place the smoked salmon pieces nicely on top of the roasted seaweed. (Note: The salmon in the photo was used without thawing completely, so its shape isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t affect the taste at all!)
Step 6
Assemble and Finish: On top of the smoked salmon, add the sliced avocado, followed by a generous portion of the prepared nattō. Drizzle a little tartar sauce as desired, and sprinkle with parsley or basil flakes. Your delicious Smoked Salmon Avocado Nattō Gimssam is complete! It’s incredibly easy – just layer the ingredients and it’s ready to eat! Enjoy this delightful meal!
