Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1/2 tsp minced garlic
- 1 can (150g) canned tuna
- 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
- 1 tsp doenjang (Korean fermented soybean paste)
- 1.5 bowls cooked rice
- 1 king oyster mushroom
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and prepare the king oyster mushroom. Finely mince the mushroom using a knife. If you prefer to use onion instead of mushroom, finely mince about 1/4 of an onion. Having your vegetables prepped makes the cooking process much smoother.
Step 2
Next, heat a pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, stirring constantly to prevent burning. You’ll smell a wonderful garlic aroma as it lightly toasts.
Step 3
Add the finely minced king oyster mushroom (or onion) to the pan and stir-fry together with the garlic for about 2 minutes, or until the mushroom is softened and tender. This step helps to bring out the mushroom’s savory flavor.
Step 4
Drain the oil thoroughly from the canned tuna and add it to the pan along with 1/2 tablespoon of gochugaru and 1 teaspoon of doenjang. Stir-fry everything together for about 1 minute, allowing the flavors to meld and create a delicious Ssamjang sauce base.
Step 5
Add 1.5 bowls of warm cooked rice to the pan. Using a spatula, gently break up the rice and mix it thoroughly with the seasoned tuna mixture. Continue to stir-fry for about 3 minutes, ensuring that each grain of rice is coated with the flavorful sauce. This will result in perfectly seasoned fried rice.
Step 6
This step is optional, but for an extra touch of nutty flavor, turn off the heat and drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. The aroma of sesame oil will elevate the taste of your fried rice. Enjoy your delicious Tuna Ssamjang Fried Rice!
