Grilled rice cakes (garae-tteok) dipped in honey or syrup are a satisfying and delicious snack. - 4 Garae-tteok (thick rice cakes)
- 4 Tbsp Mentaiko mayonnaise
- 1 cup Mozzarella cheese (approx. 50g)
- 1 Tbsp Cooking oil

Step 1
Prepare the garae-tteok. Carefully slice each rice cake lengthwise, cutting about two-thirds of the way through but not all the way, creating a pocket. This prevents the toppings from spilling out once grilled.
Step 2
Lightly brush the cut surface of each rice cake with cooking oil. This helps the rice cakes stay moist and develop a delightful chewy texture on the inside and a slightly crisp exterior while grilling.

Generously fill the slit in each rice cake with mentaiko mayonnaise. Spread it evenly with a spoon. The savory, slightly spicy, and creamy flavor of the mentaiko mayo will be a fantastic contrast to the chewy rice cake.
