Refreshing and Sweet Watermelon Juice
Beat the Heat with Homemade Watermelon Juice! Enjoy it Like a Sorbet.
A simple and delicious watermelon juice recipe made from leftover watermelon scraps after making watermelon shaved ice. It’s the perfect thirst quencher for summer!
Key Ingredients
- 1/2 medium fresh watermelon
- 1 Tbsp honey (or adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Separate the leftover watermelon pieces after scooping out balls for watermelon shaved ice. Set aside the scraps for making juice.
Step 2
Place the reserved watermelon chunks into a blender. Add 1 tablespoon of honey for a touch of sweetness. If you prefer, you can remove the seeds at this stage. (Tip: Removing seeds is recommended for a smoother texture, especially for children or those who dislike them. It might take a little effort, but it’s worth it for a pleasant drink!)
Step 3
Adjust the amount of honey based on the natural sweetness of your watermelon. This recipe uses 1 tablespoon, which is usually sufficient. If your watermelon isn’t very sweet, feel free to add more honey, syrup, or sugar to reach your desired sweetness. (Tip: If you’re not planning to drink it immediately, you can freeze the blended watermelon to enjoy it chilled later.)
Step 4
Pour the blended watermelon into a zip-top bag. Seal it tightly to prevent air from getting in, which helps maintain freshness.
Step 5
Initially, I placed the bag directly in the freezer, but concerned about it bursting, I decided to place it on top of a container for safer freezing. (Tip: This provides extra support and containment in case of leaks.)
Step 6
The next morning, take the frozen watermelon out of the freezer and gently press the bag. Check if it has frozen to a slushy consistency, and then get ready to enjoy your refreshing watermelon juice.
Step 7
Top the semi-frozen watermelon juice with watermelon pieces cut using a cookie cutter for a cafe-like presentation. (Tip: This is a great way to create a cafe ambiance at home, especially when going out is difficult due to current circumstances.) The remaining frozen watermelon is put back in the freezer for my husband who works hard in the heat.
Step 8
Take out the well-frozen watermelon and pound it with a mallet or use a blender/food processor until it reaches a smooth sorbet-like consistency. (Tip: Using a blender or food processor will make achieving the sorbet texture much easier.)
Step 9
Serve the delicious, chilled watermelon sorbet juice in a nice glass. Enjoy your homemade treat!
