Ingredients
- 10 Fresh Eggs
- 1 tsp Coarse Salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, if your eggs have been stored in the refrigerator, take them out and let them sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to remove the chill. Gently wash the eggs under running water. Then, place the eggs in a pot and cover them with water. Add 1 teaspoon of coarse salt to the water. *Starting with cold water can make the eggshells more prone to cracking, potentially causing them to split. It’s best to start with warm water.
Step 2
Once the water comes to a gentle boil, use wooden chopsticks or a ladle to slowly stir the eggs in one direction. Doing this will prevent the yolk from settling to one side and help keep it centered. Continue to gently stir the eggs every so often until the water is at a rolling boil.
Step 3
As soon as the water begins to bubble vigorously, set a timer for 5 minutes and 30 seconds. This timing will give you that perfect soft-boiled consistency with a deliciously runny yolk. *If you prefer a slightly firmer, yet still soft, yolk, you can increase the cooking time to 7 minutes.
Step 4
Immediately transfer the boiled eggs into an ice bath (a bowl of cold water with ice). Let them soak for at least 10 to 20 minutes to completely cool down. This chilling process is crucial for easy peeling without damaging the egg.
Step 5
Impatiently, I removed 1-2 eggs before the 10-minute mark and tried peeling them. As you can see, the eggs ended up with some minor blemishes. 😥 A little more patience to let them cool fully would have resulted in a perfect appearance.
Step 6
After thoroughly cooling them in ice water for 20 minutes, I started peeling from the wider end (the ‘bottom’) of the egg, gently rotating. The result? Perfectly smooth, wonderfully soft-boiled eggs with no cracks! 🥚✨
