Beef Cutlet Ingredients
  • 1kg Beef Round (Eye of Round), trimmed of fat and sinew, sliced to 1-1.5cm thickness
  • 3 Eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 1 cup All-purpose Flour (for dredging)
  • 2 cups Breadcrumbs (for a crispy coating)
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Pinch of Black Pepper

Barbecue Cream Sauce Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup Barbecue Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tsp Soy Sauce
  • Mushrooms, a small amount (finely chopped or thinly sliced)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, carefully trim any excess fat and sinew from the beef. Slice the meat into pieces about 1-1.5 cm thick. Gently pound the slices with a meat mallet or the back of a heavy knife to tenderize them. This step ensures a wonderfully tender result after cooking.

Step 2

Season the prepared beef slices evenly with salt and pepper. Ensuring the seasoning covers the surface allows the flavors to penetrate nicely, leading to a more delicious cutlet. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes.

Step 3

Prepare three shallow dishes. Place the flour in the first, the beaten eggs in the second, and the breadcrumbs in the third. Dredge each seasoned beef slice first in flour, then dip it completely in the egg wash, and finally coat it thoroughly with breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs gently onto the meat to ensure a good coating that will fry up extra crispy.

Step 4

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully place the breaded beef cutlets into the hot oil. Fry them until golden brown on both sides, about 3-5 minutes per side, ensuring they are cooked through. Be mindful not to overheat the oil, as this can burn the coating before the inside is cooked.

Step 5

While the cutlets are frying, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the barbecue sauce, ketchup, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Whisk well. Add the chopped or sliced mushrooms to the mixture. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency. The mushrooms will add a wonderful depth of flavor to the sauce.

Step 6

Arrange the beautifully cooked beef cutlets on a serving plate. Accompany them with your favorite sides, such as a fresh green salad, mashed potatoes, or grilled asparagus. Generously spoon the prepared barbecue cream sauce over the cutlets, or serve it on the side for dipping. Enjoy this delightful meal!
