Main Ingredients
  • 10g Dried, cut seaweed
  • 200g Beef for soup (cubed or thinly sliced)

Seasoning & Broth
  • 3 Tbsp Perilla oil
  • 3 Tbsp Soy sauce for soup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
  • 1 Ladle Rice water (approx. 150-200ml)
  • 2 Servings Instant beef bone broth (approx. 400-500ml)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, soak the beef in cold water for about 2 hours to remove any blood. This step is crucial for a clean and clear broth. Meanwhile, rehydrate the dried seaweed in fresh cold water until it’s soft and expanded. Once both are ready, drain them well using a sieve to remove excess water.

Step 2

Heat a pot over medium heat and add 3 tablespoons of perilla oil. The nutty aroma of perilla oil will add a wonderful depth of flavor to the soup.

Step 3

Add the drained beef and rehydrated seaweed to the hot pot. Stir-fry them together until the beef is partially cooked and the seaweed has softened and reduced in volume.

Step 4

As the ingredients begin to fry in the perilla oil, add 1 tablespoon of soup soy sauce and continue to stir-fry. Stir-frying with the soy sauce helps to season the ingredients deeply from the start.

Step 5

Next, add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and stir-fry for another minute until fragrant. The garlic aroma will significantly enhance the umami of the seaweed soup.

Step 6

When the beef is about halfway cooked, pour in the entire contents of the 2-serving instant beef bone broth and the ladle of rice water. Bring the soup to a boil, then add the remaining 2 tablespoons of soup soy sauce to season. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer gently for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully. Taste and adjust the seasoning with more soup soy sauce or salt if needed, according to your preference.

Step 7

Your hearty and comforting beef and seaweed soup is now ready! Enjoy it with a bowl of freshly steamed rice. It’s also delicious when you mix the rice directly into the soup.
