Main Ingredients
  • Beef (for soup) 120g
  • Green onions 20g
  • Daikon radish 270g
  • Water 800ml

Seasonings
  • Fish sauce (Kanari Aekjeot) 2 Tbsp (or soy sauce for soup)
  • Minced garlic 0.5 Tbsp
  • Sesame oil 1 Tbsp
  • Black pepper (a pinch)
  • Salt 0.5 Tbsp (adjust to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 120g of beef, 20g of green onions, and 270g of daikon radish. Rinse the beef under cold water to remove any blood. Peel the daikon radish and cut it into about 2-3cm cubes. Finely chop the green onions.

Step 2

Heat 1 Tbsp of sesame oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the beef and stir-fry until it’s browned on all sides. Stir-frying the beef first will deepen the flavor of the broth.

Step 3

Cut the daikon radish into roughly 2-3cm cubes. It’s best to cut them slightly thicker so they release their flavor gradually into the soup.

Step 4

When the beef is halfway cooked and starts releasing its juices, add the cubed daikon radish to the pot and stir-fry them together. Coating the radish in the oil will make the broth clearer and more refreshing. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes.

Step 5

Now, pour 800ml of water into the pot with the sautéed beef and radish. This amount is perfect for a warm, comforting bowl on a chilly day.

Step 6

Add 0.5 Tbsp of minced garlic to enhance the savory depth of the soup.

Step 7

We’ll primarily season the soup with 2 Tbsp of fish sauce (Kanari Aekjeot). If you don’t have fish sauce, you can use soy sauce for soup. (Fish sauce is optional; if omitted, adjust seasoning with salt.)

Step 8

Add 0.5 Tbsp of salt to season the soup. If you skipped the fish sauce or prefer a saltier taste, adjust the amount of salt. You can taste and add more salt as it simmers.

Step 9

Finally, add 0.5 tsp of black pepper for an aromatic touch. Be careful not to add too much, as it can make the soup cloudy.

Step 10

Cover the pot and let it simmer over medium-low heat for about 20 minutes, or until the radish becomes transparent and tender. Add the chopped green onions at the end and simmer for another moment until the delicious beef and radish soup is complete. It’s incredibly tasty when enjoyed with a bowl of rice!
