Ham & Cheese Roll Sandwich Ingredients
  • 4 slices of white bread
  • 4 slices of sandwich ham
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 2-3 Tbsp strawberry jam

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

I’ve prepared enough for a snack with this recipe. The best flavor comes with a 1:1:1 ratio of white bread, sandwich ham, and cheddar cheese. Place 4 slices of white bread on a cutting board and carefully trim off the crusts. This step ensures the rolls are soft and neat when you wrap them.

Step 2

Pour boiling water (around 100°C) over the sandwich ham and let it sit for about 1 minute before draining. Alternatively, you can boil water in a pot and blanch the ham. This process helps remove any unwanted odor from the ham and results in a cleaner taste.

Step 3

Use a rolling pin or the side of a clean bottle to thinly flatten the white bread slices. Flattening the bread makes the rolls more compact and easier to eat after they are made. Be careful not to press too hard, or the bread might tear.

Step 4

Lay out a sheet of plastic wrap large enough to wrap the sandwich rolls tightly. Place the flattened slice of white bread on top of the plastic wrap. Now, spread about 2-3 tablespoons of strawberry jam evenly over the bread. The jam adds a touch of sweetness and tanginess, balancing the richness of the ham and cheese.

Step 5

Layer the sandwich ham and cheddar cheese slices on top of the jam. It’s important to leave a margin of about 1-2 cm along the edge of the bread closest to you. This gap will help prevent the filling from spilling out when you roll the sandwich.

Step 6

Using the plastic wrap, carefully begin to roll the bread forward, keeping it snug. As you roll, the ham and cheese might shift slightly outwards. Gently press with your hands as you roll to keep everything in place. Repeat this process to make a total of 4 ham and cheese roll sandwiches. Wrapping them tightly with plastic wrap will help them hold their shape, especially when you slice them later.

Step 7

Once rolled, slice the sandwiches into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm thick. Arrange the sliced roll sandwiches neatly in a lunchbox or on a serving plate. They make a wonderful addition to a spring picnic, especially when served with some fresh fruit!
