Main Ingredients
- Sliced ham (to your liking) – appropriate amount
- Well-fermented kimchi (with a little juice) – appropriate amount
- Warm cooked rice – 1 serving (approx. 200g)
Seasoning & Garnish
- Sesame oil – 1/2 Tbsp
- Toasted sesame seeds – a pinch
- Sesame oil – 1/2 Tbsp
- Toasted sesame seeds – a pinch
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a large bowl, add 1 serving of warm cooked rice. Dice the ham into bite-sized pieces (about 1cm cubes or smaller) and add it to the rice. For better flavor and to reduce excess oil, you can lightly blanch or pan-fry the ham before adding.
Step 2
Rinse the kimchi under running water to slightly tone down its spiciness and sourness, especially if it’s very potent. Finely mince the rinsed kimchi. Adding a small amount of kimchi juice will infuse the rice with flavor and moisture. Add the minced kimchi to the bowl with the rice and ham.
Step 3
Now, let’s add the flavor! Drizzle in 1/2 Tbsp of sesame oil for a nutty aroma, and sprinkle a pinch of toasted sesame seeds on top for garnish and added crunch.
Step 4
Using a spatula or your hands (lightly moistened or gloved), gently mix all the ingredients together until well combined. Be careful not to mash the rice grains. Ensure the ham and kimchi are evenly distributed throughout the rice.
Step 5
Time to shape them! Lightly dampen your hands or wear disposable gloves. Scoop a spoonful of the rice mixture and shape it into round balls. You can get creative and make them into fun character shapes for kids, or wrap them in seaweed for an extra special touch. Enjoy your delicious rice balls!
