- 100g Instant Jajang Powder
- 1.5 Medium Onions
- 1 Medium Potato
- 1/2 Zucchini
- 1/2 Carrot
- 1/4 Head Cabbage
- 1 Shiitake Mushroom (or similar)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- Small piece of White Part of Green Onion
- 5 Tbsp Cooking Oil
- 700ml Water (approx. 3.5 cups)
- Beef (Sirloin or Tenderloin for steak) – appropriate amount
Seasoning
- 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- Pinch of Black Pepper Powder
- 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- Pinch of Black Pepper Powder
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Wash all vegetables thoroughly and prepare them. Pat the steak-cut beef dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper.
Step 2
Dice the onions into small, 1cm cubes. Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a deep pan or wok over medium-low heat. Add the diced onions and sauté them slowly until they become translucent. Sautéing the onions well will bring out their natural sweetness.
Step 3
Dice the potato, zucchini, carrot, cabbage, and mushroom into approximately 1cm cubes. Finely chop the white part of the green onion.
Step 4
To the translucent onions, add the minced garlic, chopped green onion, and black pepper powder. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic by using excessively high heat.
Step 5
Add all the diced vegetables (potato, zucchini, carrot, cabbage, mushroom) to the pan. Stir-fry over medium heat for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender. Make sure to stir continuously so the ingredients are evenly mixed.
Step 6
Add the 100g of jajang powder and the remaining 3 tablespoons of cooking oil over the vegetables. Mix well with the ingredients so the jajang powder is coated in oil.
Step 7
Reduce the heat to low and stir continuously for at least 10 minutes to prevent the jajang sauce from sticking to the bottom or burning. This process helps to mellow out any bitterness from the fermented black bean paste and develop a deep flavor. Continuous stirring with a spatula is crucial.
Step 8
Pour 700ml of water into the stir-fried jajang sauce and mix well to dissolve. Once it comes to a boil, add 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring constantly to prevent sticking, for about 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens. This completes the delicious vegetable jajang sauce.
Step 9
Grill the steak-cut beef in a preheated pan with a little oil to your desired doneness. Slice into bite-sized pieces and place on top of the finished vegetable jajangmyeon for a hearty and impressive steak jajangmyeon experience.
