Gorgonzola Pizza with Honey (Tortilla Hack)
Flavorful Gorgonzola Pizza Dipped in Sweet Honey
Craving pizza? Make this delicious Gorgonzola pizza at home using tortillas! It’s a quick and tasty alternative to ordering from a restaurant, offering a delightful crispy crust and rich cheesy filling.
Ingredients
- 1 (30cm) whole wheat tortilla
- 40-50g crumbled Gorgonzola cheese (adjust to taste)
- 120-150g mozzarella or fresh mozzarella cheese
- 1 handful fresh arugula (rocket)
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/3 cup honey (or other syrup like agave or maple)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by preparing your Gorgonzola cheese. Using crumbled Gorgonzola, like the kind found at Costco, makes this recipe even more convenient and adds a wonderful depth of flavor.
Step 2
Use the 30cm whole wheat tortilla as your pizza base. Heat a pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Place the tortilla in the pan. Once slightly warmed, sprinkle about 40-50g of crumbled Gorgonzola cheese evenly over the tortilla. Be mindful not to add too much Gorgonzola, as its strong flavor and saltiness can be overpowering if used excessively.
Step 3
In the gaps between the Gorgonzola crumbles, generously add 120-150g of mozzarella cheese or fresh mozzarella cheese. This combination adds a creamy texture and mellows the pungent Gorgonzola, creating a more balanced flavor profile.
Step 4
Cook over medium-low heat, allowing the cheeses to melt slowly and meld together. This gradual melting process helps achieve that perfect, gooey, and delicious cheesy consistency, making the pizza truly irresistible.
Step 5
Continue cooking until the edges of the tortilla are golden brown and the bottom is beautifully caramelized. Once you see a lovely golden-brown color on the underside, carefully remove it from the heat.
Step 6
Transfer the cooked pizza to a plate. Instead of using a pizza cutter which can scratch plates, use kitchen scissors to cut the pizza into 4 or 8 slices. Cutting it into 4 large slices is ideal if you plan to roll up the slices with toppings.
Step 7
Wash a handful of fresh arugula (rocket) leaves and pat them dry. In a small bowl, toss the arugula with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese. This simple dressing enhances the peppery notes of the arugula.
Step 8
Arrange the dressed arugula salad in the center of the pizza. The fresh greens add a vibrant touch and a lovely peppery contrast to the rich cheese.
Step 9
Take a slice of your delicious Gorgonzola pizza, roll it up, and drizzle it generously with honey, agave syrup, or maple syrup before taking a bite. The interplay of savory cheese and sweet syrup is absolutely divine! Arugula is wonderfully fresh and affordable right now, and it truly complements Gorgonzola pizza perfectly.
Step 10
Arugula is a unique leafy green, often compared to young radish leaves, known for aiding digestion and potentially helping with colds. Its distinct aroma makes it pleasant to eat. While the leaves are typically used in salads, the stronger stems can be served alongside meat dishes. Adding it to your pizza enhances the overall flavor experience.
