Ingredients
- 1/2 cup minced garlic (or 5-6 cloves thinly sliced)
- 2 strips bacon, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 bowl of cooked rice (warm rice)
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil or olive oil
- 1 tsp butter
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp oyster sauce
- Pinch of black pepper
- A little chopped green onion or scallion for garnish
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the bacon into 1-2 cm pieces, making them easy to eat. Pre-cutting makes stir-frying more convenient.
Step 2
Depending on your preference, mince the garlic or, if using whole cloves, slice them thinly into 2-3 pieces. Thinly sliced garlic becomes nuttier and crispier as it cooks.
Step 3
Heat 1 Tbsp of cooking oil or olive oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the prepared garlic and sauté slowly until it becomes golden brown. Once the garlic starts to turn golden, add the cut bacon and stir-fry together. The bacon will start to render its fat.
Step 4
When the garlic turns golden and the bacon is nicely cooked, remove the garlic to a separate bowl for a moment. Leave the bacon in the pan and cook until crispy. If there’s too much bacon fat, carefully drain some or wipe it with a paper towel to maintain a moderate amount. This rendered fat adds wonderful flavor to the fried rice.
Step 5
Now, reduce the heat to low or turn it off briefly. Add 1 bowl of warm cooked rice to the pan. Using the side of your spatula, gently break up any clumps of rice and mix it with the bacon fat, stir-frying lightly. It’s important to toss gently so each grain of rice is coated.
Step 6
Pour 1 tsp of soy sauce and 1/2 tsp of oyster sauce around the edges of the pan to season and add umami. Adjust the amount of soy sauce and oyster sauce based on the saltiness of the bacon. If the bacon is very salty, you can reduce or omit these seasonings.
Step 7
Add the pre-sautéed golden garlic back into the fried rice and gently mix it with the rice. Ensure the nutty aroma of the garlic is well incorporated into the rice.
Step 8
Finally, add 1 tsp of butter and stir as it melts to deepen the flavor. While bacon alone provides plenty of flavor, butter adds a richer, more luxurious taste. Season with a pinch of black pepper to finish, if desired.
Step 9
Pack the finished fried rice into a bowl, pressing gently. Then, invert the bowl onto a plate for a nice presentation. Garnish with finely chopped green onions or scallions for a pop of color and fresh aroma. If you don’t have green onions, a sprinkle of parsley flakes works well too.
Step 10
A perfect blend of fragrant garlic and savory bacon! Your Garlic Bacon Fried Rice is ready. Enjoy your delicious meal!
