Ingredients
- 1 slice of bread
- 1 slice of cheese
- 2 eggs
- 1 pinch of salt
- Butter, as needed
- Strawberry jam, as needed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, crack 2 eggs into a bowl and add a pinch of salt. Whisk them together until the yolks and whites are well combined and the mixture is smooth. Adding a little salt helps to eliminate any eggy smell and enhances the flavor.
Step 2
Cut both the slice of bread and the slice of cheese in half. This will help ensure even distribution of the filling and a neater shape when you fold the toast.
Step 3
Next, heat a frying pan over medium heat. Once the pan is warm, add about 1/2 tablespoon of butter and let it melt. Reduce the heat to low to prevent the butter from burning. Cooking on low heat ensures the toast cooks through evenly without burning.
Step 4
Once the butter has melted, carefully pour the whisked egg mixture into the pan. Tilt the pan gently to spread the egg mixture thinly over the surface.
Step 5
Place the slice of bread onto the egg mixture. Let it soak up the egg on both sides, flipping it to ensure it’s coated. Cook for about 80% of the way through. Avoid cooking it too crispy at this stage, as it might tear when you fold it later.
Step 6
When the bread is about 80% cooked, carefully flip it over. Then, use a spoon or spatula to gently fold the excess egg mixture that has spread beyond the bread’s edges towards the center, creating a square shape. This step helps create a crispy crust and keeps the filling contained. (This step might be a bit tricky, so referring to a video can be very helpful for understanding.)
Step 7
On top of the bread, place one half with strawberry jam and the other half with the slice of cheese. Feel free to adjust the amount of jam and cheese to your preference.
Step 8
Fold the toast in half, covering the jam and cheese. Continue to cook on low heat until the outside is golden brown and the cheese inside is melted. And that’s it – your delicious one-pan toast is ready! Cut it into pieces and enjoy it warm.
