Delicious Jajangmyeon Recipe to Enjoy at Home
Perfect for Weekend Lunch or Dinner! The Secret to Making a Hearty Bowl of Jajangmyeon
Slurp slurp! I’ll show you how to easily make Jajangmyeon at home, bursting with rich savory flavor. A family favorite, let’s get started right now!
Main Ingredients
- 1 pack Udon noodles (or Kalguksu noodles, Somyeon noodles)
- 1 packet Black Bean Sauce Powder (for 1 serving)
- 1 Onion (chopped into large pieces)
- 1/4 Zucchini (diced)
- 1 handful Pork or Chicken (finely chopped)
- 1 King Oyster Mushroom (sliced into bite-sized pieces)
- 2 cups Water (400ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The Jajang dish we’ll be making today is versatile. It’s excellent served over rice as a Jajang Deopbap (rice bowl), or mixed with noodles as Jajangmyeon. It’s simple yet tastes amazing!
Step 2
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a deep pan or pot. Add all the prepared meat and vegetables (onion, zucchini, king oyster mushroom) and stir-fry over medium heat. Once the onions become translucent and release their sweet aroma, add 2 cups (400ml) of water. It’s best to add the water before the vegetables get too soft.
Step 3
Once the water starts boiling, add 1 packet of black bean sauce powder. At this stage, whisk continuously with a whisk or spatula to prevent lumps, and let it simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cook for another 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens into a delicious consistency.
Step 4
While the sauce is simmering, cook your chosen noodles. You can use udon, kalguksu, or regular somyeon noodles depending on what you have at home. Once the noodles are cooked to your liking, rinse them under cold water and drain well. (Using cold noodles enhances the contrast with the hot sauce.)
Step 5
Place the cooked noodles in a bowl and generously ladle the warm black bean sauce over them. You can also serve it over rice for a Jajang Deopbap. For an even more appealing presentation, garnish with a hard-boiled egg, julienned cucumber, or peas, according to your preference!
