Delicious and Bouncy Water Chestnut Jelly (Olbangae-muk)
Easy Homemade Water Chestnut Jelly: A Great Diet-Friendly Option
I tried making Olbange-muk (water chestnut jelly) after seeing it on the TV show ‘Fun-staurant’. I never realized how simple it is to make jelly at home! It’s incredibly easy to prepare, and the resulting chewy, bouncy texture is wonderfully delicious. This recipe is perfect for a healthy and tasty snack or a light meal.
Ingredients
- 1 paper cup water chestnut powder
- 6 paper cups water
- 1 teaspoon salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, in a clean bowl, combine 1 paper cup of water chestnut powder with 6 paper cups of water. Whisk them together until there are no lumps. The ratio of water chestnut powder to water is 1:6. Ensure it’s mixed smoothly without any clumps.
Step 2
Pour the well-mixed water chestnut and water mixture into a pot and begin to cook over high heat. Start by boiling it rapidly.
Step 3
Once small bubbles start to appear at the bottom or edges of the pot as it begins to boil, reduce the heat to medium. At this point, add 1 teaspoon of salt to season the jelly.
Step 4
After reducing the heat to medium, it’s crucial to stir continuously to prevent the mixture from sticking to the bottom of the pot. You’ll start to see small, jelly-like granules forming as you stir. This stage requires patience, but keep stirring for a delicious result.
Step 5
As you continue to stir, the mixture will gradually thicken and begin to form the jelly consistency. Don’t stop stirring until the mixture appears to be boiling up along the sides of the pot, indicating it’s taking on the jelly shape.
Step 6
Finally, when large bubbles start to rise from the jelly mixture, your water chestnut jelly is almost ready. Turn off the heat and carefully pour the mixture into a prepared large bowl or mold. Let it cool completely at room temperature. Once cooled, it will set into a firm, bouncy jelly. Cut it into your desired serving sizes and enjoy!
