Crispy & Chewy! Authentic Grated Potato Pancake Recipe
Potato Pancake Made with a Grater: The Ultimate Snack for Rainy Days
Today, we’re sharing a special potato pancake recipe made by grating the potatoes by hand. It’s a delightful dish, perfect for rainy days, with a wonderfully crispy exterior and a delightfully chewy interior. Let’s make this simple yet deeply flavorful potato pancake!
Ingredients
- 350g Potatoes (approx. 3 medium-sized)
- 100g Onion (approx. 1/4 medium-sized)
- 5 Tbsp Potato Starch
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 8 Leaves of Crown Daisy (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin your delicious potato pancake journey! Prepare your fresh main ingredients.
Step 2
Wash the potatoes thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt and peel them completely. Since we’ll be using the potato’s starch, be careful not to wash it all away during rinsing.
Step 3
We’ll be grating the potatoes finely using a grater. Securing the potato on a fork makes grating safer and prevents injuries. Don’t discard the juice that comes out; we’ll use it too.
Step 4
Grate the onion finely using the same method as the potatoes. Adding onion will further enhance the flavor of the potato pancake.
Step 5
In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes and onion, 5 tablespoons of potato starch, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mix them well until a cohesive batter forms. Be careful not to overmix.
Step 6
Heat a pan, then ladle the batter onto the pan, forming round pancakes. Aim for a thickness that is neither too thin nor too thick for even cooking.
Step 7
Once the edges of the potato pancake start to turn golden brown, gently place the crown daisy leaves on top. The aroma of the crown daisy will add another layer of richness to the pancake. (Crown daisy is optional, so feel free to omit it if you don’t have it or prefer not to use it.)
Step 8
When one side is sufficiently cooked, carefully flip the pancake and cook the other side until it’s also golden brown. Cooking over medium-low heat ensures it cooks through without burning.
Step 9
Your delicious potato pancake, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, is now ready! While a blender is convenient, grating by hand offers a much deeper flavor and superior texture. It’s best enjoyed while warm. Enjoy your meal!
