Main Ingredients
  • 4 Pollack Roe (Myeongran-jeot)
  • 1 Cucumber
  • 1 Tbsp Butter (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Cheongyang Pepper (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the cucumber and Cheongyang pepper. Slice the cucumber thinly. The Cheongyang pepper is optional and only for those who enjoy spiciness; finely mince it.

Step 2

Prepare 4 pieces of Pollack Roe (Myeongran-jeot). (This is about 1 pack.)

Step 3

Have about 1 tablespoon of butter ready. This will be used to sear the Myeongran-jeot in the pan.

Step 4

Slice the prepared cucumber into attractive, round pieces. Thinner slices offer a better texture.

Step 5

The Cheongyang pepper can be omitted. If using, mince it very finely. Chopped or thinly sliced pieces are both fine.

Step 6

In a small bowl, combine the minced Cheongyang pepper with 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise. This dipping sauce is delicious when served alongside the cucumber slices.

Step 7

Heat a pan over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Place the Myeongran-jeot in the pan and sear both sides until golden brown and slightly crispy. The butter adds a rich, savory flavor to the roe.

Step 8

Since Myeongran-jeot is a salted product, it doesn’t need to be cooked through completely. Cook it to your preference – fully cooked or just seared on the outside. When the center is slightly undercooked, the individual roe pearls will burst delightfully.

Step 9

Once seared, cut the Myeongran-jeot into bite-sized pieces for easy eating.

Step 10

Your delicious Butter-Seared Myeongran-jeot is now complete!

Step 11

When plating, serve the sliced cucumber alongside. It makes for a more visually appealing and tasty presentation.

Step 12

The delightful popping sensation of the roe pearls combined with the rich butter flavor creates an irresistibly addictive taste. It’s truly perfect when enjoyed with a cold beer!
