Let’s make simple and delicious tuna pancakes! This recipe uses canned tuna for an easy and tasty dish, perfect as a side or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 can Tuna (drained)
- 2 Cheongyang peppers
- 1/3 Carrot
- 1/2 Onion
- 1/2 cup Pancake mix (buchim garu)
- 2 Eggs
- 1 pinch Salt
- 1 handful Green onion
- 2 tsp Minced garlic
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Today, we’re going to make delicious and nutritious tuna pancakes, also known as tuna donggeurang-ttaeng! It’s a flavor that both kids and adults will love!
Step 2
First, drain the oil from the canned tuna thoroughly using a sieve. This step is crucial to reduce greasiness and enhance the savory flavor of the tuna pancakes. To the drained tuna, add 2 finely chopped Cheongyang peppers, 1/3 finely chopped carrot, and 1/2 finely chopped onion. Chopping the vegetables very finely will result in a better texture when the pancakes are cooked. Next, add 1/2 cup of pancake mix, 2 eggs, a pinch of salt, 1 handful of chopped green onions, and 2 teaspoons of minced garlic. Mix all the ingredients together.
Step 3
I find that adding minced garlic significantly enhances the flavor of the tuna pancakes, so I always include it. However, if you don’t like the taste of garlic or if you’re making this for children, feel free to omit it. Canned tuna already has some saltiness, and since my children enjoy dipping them in ketchup, I only added a tiny pinch of salt. When making these for kids, it’s best to keep the seasoning mild.
Step 4
Mix the batter well until all ingredients are evenly combined. If the batter is too wet, add a little more pancake mix; if it’s too stiff, add a bit more beaten egg to reach the desired consistency. Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Scoop about a tablespoon of the batter at a time and drop it into the pan, shaping it into round, flat patties. Fry slowly until golden brown on both sides and cooked through. The key is to achieve a crispy exterior and a moist interior.
Step 5
And there you have it! Delicious tuna donggeurang-ttaeng is ready! They taste even better served warm with ketchup or a soy sauce-based dipping sauce. These wonderful tuna pancakes are perfect as a side dish or a delightful snack for children. Be sure to give them a try!
