Main Ingredients
  • 250g Radish (approx. 1/4 of a medium radish)

Seasoning Ingredients
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1.5 tsp Gochugaru (Korean Chili Flakes)
  • 1 tsp Toasted Sesame Seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash and prepare the 250g of radish. Slice the radish as thinly and long as possible into matchsticks. Thin slices ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed and results in a better texture. Using a mandoline slicer can make this process much easier.

Step 2

Place the shredded radish in a bowl and add 0.5 tsp of salt. Gently massage the radish with your hands. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to draw out some moisture, which will help create a crisper texture. (Tip: Don’t knead too vigorously, or the radish might become mushy.)

Step 3

Lightly squeeze out the excess water from the salted radish. Now, add the seasoning ingredients. Start with 1 tsp of minced garlic. The pungent aroma of garlic will enhance the overall flavor of the radish salad.

Step 4

Next, add 1 tsp of sugar to provide sweetness. Sugar helps to balance the radish’s slight spiciness and enhances its umami flavor.

Step 5

For a nutty and aromatic finish, add 1 tsp of sesame oil. Sesame oil will make the radish salad’s taste richer and more complex.

Step 6

Finally, add 1.5 tsp of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) for color and a touch of heat. If you enjoy a spicier kick, feel free to add a little more.

Step 7

Once all the seasonings are added, gently mix everything together again with your hands. It’s important to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the radish. Sprinkle 1 tsp of toasted sesame seeds on top for extra nuttiness. Your delicious radish salad is now ready! You can enjoy it immediately, or chill it in the refrigerator for a while for an even more refreshing taste.
