Ingredients
- Leftover Chicken (shredded or cut into bite-sized pieces)
- Leftover Tteokbokki (with plenty of sauce)
- 1/2 Onion
- 2 packs Mozzarella Cheese
- 4 Tbsp Water (if tteokbokki sauce is insufficient)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare half an onion. Wash it thoroughly and then finely mince it using a knife or a food processor. This minced onion will add a wonderful depth of flavor to your gratin.
Step 2
If you have leftover tteokbokki, and it seems a bit dry, add 4 tablespoons of water and mix well to ensure the tteokbokki stays moist. If the tteokbokki is too stiff, it might not blend well with the cheese.
Step 3
In an oven-safe dish or a microwave-safe bowl, place the tteokbokki mixture as the base. Sprinkle about half of one pack of mozzarella cheese lightly over the top. Adding cheese at this stage helps prevent the tteokbokki from sticking to the bottom and allows the cheese to melt into the tteokbokki pieces.
Step 4
Next, arrange the leftover chicken pieces evenly over the tteokbokki. If your chicken pieces are too large, it’s best to shred or cut them into more manageable, bite-sized portions.
Step 5
If the chicken pieces are still a bit large, use chopsticks or a fork to break them down further into easily edible pieces or scatter them. This ensures you get a good mix of all ingredients in each bite.
Step 6
Evenly distribute the minced onion (prepared in step 1) over the chicken. The subtle sweetness of the onion will enhance the flavors of both the chicken and the tteokbokki.
Step 7
Finally, generously cover the entire dish with the remaining mozzarella cheese. A good layer of cheese is key for that irresistible, bubbly, golden-brown finish. If using an oven, preheat it to 230°C (450°F) and bake for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden. If using a microwave, heat until the cheese is fully melted and the gratin is bubbling hot. (Adjust cooking time based on your microwave’s power.)
Step 8
Carefully remove the finished Chicken Tteokbokki Gratin and enjoy it while it’s warm! Savor the perfect harmony of chewy tteok, spicy tteokbokki sauce, tender chicken, and gooey cheese. You’ll feel a sense of accomplishment knowing you’ve transformed leftovers into such a delightful meal!
