How to Cook Sea Squirt Rice in a Pot
Let’s make special pot rice today! This is sea squirt pot rice cooked with fresh sea squirts. The unique ocean flavor will fill your mouth.
Ingredients
- 2 servings of rice (approx. 2 cups)
- 5 fresh sea squirts (or 100g sea squirt meat)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the 2 servings of rice thoroughly. Instead of a rice cooker, place the washed rice in a pot. Use a little more water than usual; about 110% of the rice volume is recommended. This extra water helps the sea squirt flavor infuse well.
Step 2
Now, let’s start cooking the rice. Bring the water to a boil over high heat until it bubbles vigorously. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and cook until the water level subsides to almost none. When the water has mostly evaporated, lower the heat to the minimum setting. Place the prepared sea squirts evenly on top of the rice. Cover the pot tightly and let it steam for about 10 minutes. This steaming process allows the sea squirt’s aroma to fully permeate the rice.
Step 3
After steaming, open the lid. You’ll be greeted by a subtle, fresh aroma of the sea from the sea squirts, and your delicious sea squirt rice will be perfectly cooked, with a beautiful sheen on the grains.
Step 4
My only slight regret is that I wish I had a bit more sea squirt. Next time, I’ll prepare extra sea squirt to enhance the rich flavor in the rice even further. Enjoy this flavorful rice on its own or with your favorite seasoned soy sauce or kimchi.
