  • Whole garlic cloves: 10 (optional, adds depth of flavor)

  • Soy sauce: 4 Tbsp
  • Oyster sauce: 4 Tbsp (for umami)

  • Granulated sugar: 2 Tbsp
  • Oligosaccharide syrup: 1 Tbsp (for a nice sheen)
  • Cooking wine (Mirin, etc.): 1 Tbsp
  • Black pepper: 4 pinches (adjust to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, we’ll parboil the ribs to remove any gamey odor and clean them thoroughly. Place the pork spare ribs in a pot and add enough water to cover them completely. Toss in the green onion, whole peppercorns, and optional whole garlic cloves for added aroma. Once the water comes to a boil, let it simmer for about 5 minutes, then turn off the heat. This parboiling step effectively removes impurities from the ribs. Drain the ribs and rinse them thoroughly under cold running water to wash away all the impurities.

Step 2

While the ribs are parboiling, let’s prepare the delicious BBQ sauce! In a bowl, combine 4 Tbsp soy sauce, 4 Tbsp oyster sauce, 2 Tbsp minced garlic, 2 Tbsp granulated sugar, 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide syrup, 1 Tbsp cooking wine, and about 4 pinches of black pepper. Whisk everything together with a whisk or spoon until all the ingredients are well combined and the sugar has dissolved. This creates a rich and savory sauce.

Step 3

Add the cleaned and drained pork ribs to the prepared sauce. Gently toss the ribs with your hands to ensure the sauce coats every piece evenly. For even better flavor infusion, let the ribs marinate in the sauce for about 10 minutes.

Step 4

Now it’s time to air fry the ribs! Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper. This makes cleanup a breeze later. Arrange the marinated ribs in a single layer, making sure they don’t overlap or touch too much. This spacing is crucial for even cooking and achieving that perfect crispiness on all sides.

Step 5

Place the arranged ribs into the preheated air fryer set at 180°C (350°F) and cook for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, carefully pull out the basket and flip the ribs over. Continue to cook for another 10 minutes at 180°C (350°F) until they are golden brown and cooked through. The cooking time might vary slightly depending on your air fryer model and the thickness of the ribs, so feel free to check and adjust as needed.

Step 6

Ta-da! Your perfectly golden and mouthwatering Air Fryer BBQ Pork Ribs are ready! The visual appeal is incredible, isn’t it? Imagine your kids happily tearing into these delicious ribs, hands sticky and full of joy. How about making these fantastic ribs your special Halloween menu this weekend? It’s sure to bring smiles and create wonderful memories for the whole family.
