Ingredients
- Mini Vegetable Gimbap Set (1 package, makes 12 mini gimbaps)
- Quail eggs (a few)
- Carrot (a little)
- Black sesame seeds (a little)
- Vienna sausages (a few)
- Cheese (a little)
- Spinach (for gimbap, a handful)
- Kimchi ham (for gimbap, 1/2 block)
- Fruits (strawberries, grapes, tangerines, etc., a selection)
- Chicken popcorn (frozen, a handful)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the mini gimbap ingredients: The mini vegetable gimbap set contains enough ingredients to make 12 mini gimbaps. Separately, wash and blanch the spinach until tender, then squeeze out any excess water. Slice the ham thinly. Add these prepared spinach and ham to the gimbap set’s ingredients to assemble the mini gimbaps.
Step 2
Make octopus-shaped Vienna sausages: Make 6 evenly spaced cuts about halfway up the length of each Vienna sausage. When cooked, these cuts will open up like tentacles, creating a cute octopus shape.
Step 3
Blanch the octopus sausages and add cheese eyes: Gently blanch the cut Vienna sausages in boiling water. While the sausages are still slightly warm, cut small circles from the cheese slices and press them onto the sausage bodies to create eyes. The slight warmth will help the cheese adhere better, making your octopuses look adorable. Use black sesame seeds for pupils.
Step 4
Create cute chick quail eggs: Hard-boil the quail eggs and peel them. Thinly slice the carrot to create small triangle shapes for beaks, and use black sesame seeds for the eyes. Assemble these parts onto the peeled quail eggs to form charming little chicks.
Step 5
Finely detail the chick’s eyes and beaks: To attach the black sesame seed eyes, make a tiny indentation with a toothpick and gently press the seed in – this is the key to a secure attachment! Use very thinly sliced carrot pieces for the beak and a delicate mouth to complete the detailed chick appearance.
Step 6
Prepare fruits, chicken, and assemble the bento: Prepare the selected fruits, washing and cutting them into bite-sized, appealing pieces. Cook the frozen chicken popcorn according to package directions (air fryer or pan-frying works well for a crispy texture). Now, artfully arrange the prepared mini gimbaps, octopus sausages, chick quail eggs, chicken popcorn, and fresh fruits in the bento box. The way you arrange the food can make the same meal look more appealing and special. Using your child’s favorite character bento box will surely make them even happier!
