  • 17 Vienna sausages
  • 1/3 Onion
  • 1/3 Bell pepper (choose your favorite color)
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1/2 Korean green chili pepper (adjust for spice preference)
  • A pinch of sesame seeds
  • A little Olive oil

Spicy and Sweet Ketchup Sauce
  • 3 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 1.5 Tbsp Oyster sauce (for umami!)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Cooking syrup or corn syrup (for gloss and sweetness)
  • A pinch of Black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare all your ingredients before you begin cooking. For the Vienna sausages, score them lightly 2-3 times in a pattern you like; this makes them look more appealing as they cook. Dice the onion into roughly 1cm cubes. Cut the bell pepper into similar-sized squares. Thinly slice the garlic cloves to release their aroma. Deseed the Korean green chili pepper and finely chop it (you can omit this if you prefer less spice).

Step 2

Heat a pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of olive oil. Add the sliced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Sautéing the garlic first will greatly enhance the overall flavor of the dish.

Step 3

Once the garlic is fragrant, add the diced onion and bell pepper to the pan. Continue stir-frying over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes, until the vegetables become slightly translucent. Be careful not to overcook them; you want them to retain a slight crispness.

Step 4

Now it’s time to add the Vienna sausages and chopped green chili pepper. Stir-fry over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes, allowing all the ingredients to mingle well. The sausages will turn a lovely golden brown as they cook.

Once the ingredients are mostly cooked, add the prepared ketchup sauce (ketchup, oyster sauce, cooking syrup, and black pepper) to the pan. Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir-fry quickly for about 1 minute, ensuring the sauce coats everything evenly. Stir constantly to prevent the sauce from burning.

Step 6

Turn off the heat and sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds over the top for a nutty aroma. Gently toss everything together with a spatula or chopsticks until well combined. Your delicious Vienna sausage and vegetable stir-fry is ready!
