Unique Watermelon Sushi ‘Byun Sushi’
Creative Recipe: Make the ‘Byun Sushi’ from ‘Treasure Island’s Monster Food Battle’ at Home!
Introducing the ‘Byun Sushi’ recipe, which gained attention after being featured in the popular segment ‘Treasure Island’s Monster Food Battle’ on MBC’s ‘My Little Television’. This recipe offers an extraordinary experience where you can taste an unimaginable flavor with ordinary ingredients. We’ve detailed the process so even beginner cooks can follow along joyfully. ^^
Main Ingredients
- 1 whole watermelon
- 1 bar of chocolate (dark or milk chocolate recommended)
- 1 bag of rice (approx. 2 servings)
- 2 tubes of wasabi (tube or fresh wasabi)
- 1 pack of seaweed (for kimbap or seasoned seaweed)
- 1 bar of sweet bean jelly (optional, for added sweetness)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and prepare the whole watermelon thoroughly. Remove the stem end and cut it into rectangular pieces, about 2cm thick, suitable for eating. Cutting them to a consistent size that fits well on top of the rice will make it even better.
Step 2
Keep the cut watermelon chilled in the refrigerator. Now it’s time to make the sushi rice. Place 1 bag of rice (about 2 servings) in your rice cooker and cook it as you normally would. Once the rice is cooked, scoop out enough rice for the sushi into a bowl. While the scooped rice is still warm, lightly wet your hands and gently shape it into oval sushi forms. Be careful not to press too hard, as this can make the rice mushy. Place the shaped sushi rice neatly on any prepared plate or bowl.
Step 3
Now, it’s time to add wasabi on top of the sushi rice. Using a wasabi tube, generously squeeze it onto the rice as if it were a bomb. You can adjust the amount of wasabi to your preference, but the highlight of this recipe is the ‘wasabi bomb,’ so be bold! Arrange the chilled watermelon pieces attractively on top of the wasabi. The contrast between the red of the watermelon and the green of the wasabi adds visual appeal.
Step 4
Finally, the spectacular completion of ‘Byun Sushi’ is in sight! Once again, generously squeeze the wasabi bomb onto the rice. Place the whole chocolate bar on top, or break it into small pieces according to your preference. The combination of the chocolate’s sweetness, the wasabi’s spiciness, and the watermelon’s coolness will create an unexpectedly unique flavor. As an optional step, you can add sweet bean jelly for extra sweetness or wrap it with seaweed for a new texture. Create your own personalized ‘Byun Sushi’!
