Main Ingredients
- 1 fresh whole squid
- 30g unsalted butter
- 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
Spicy Mayo Dipping Sauce
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 Korean chili pepper (minced very finely)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 Korean chili pepper (minced very finely)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the delicious butter sauce. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 30g of unsalted butter and 1 Tbsp of granulated sugar. Microwave for about 30 seconds until the butter is softened and melted.
Step 2
Remove the butter from the microwave and stir it thoroughly with the sugar until well combined and smooth, creating a rich butter sauce.
Step 3
Clean and prepare the fresh squid. Remove the innards and the backbone. Also, thoroughly clean the suckers and eyes.
Step 4
Pat the prepared squid dry on both sides using paper towels. Ensuring the squid is dry will help the butter sauce adhere better and result in a crispier finish.
Step 5
To prevent the squid from curling up as it cooks, make cuts along the body, similar to the picture. If the cuts are too shallow, it might still curl, so make them a bit deeper to help the squid lie flat.
Step 6
Brush the prepared butter sauce evenly over both sides of the squid. Ensuring the sauce coats the squid thoroughly will enhance its flavor.
Step 7
Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper and place the butter-coated squid on top. Arrange them so they don’t overlap, allowing for even cooking.
Step 8
Without preheating, cook the squid at 180°C (350°F) for 10 minutes for the first stage. The squid will start to turn golden brown during this time.
Step 9
After the first stage, check the squid’s doneness. If it’s not fully cooked or if certain parts are still curled, flip it over and cook for an additional 10 minutes at 180°C (350°F) for the second stage. Adjust the cooking time based on the size of your squid and your air fryer model.
Step 10
Your delicious butter-roasted squid is finally ready! It looks incredibly appetizing.
Step 11
Cut the finished squid into bite-sized pieces and arrange them attractively on a serving plate. For the spicy mayo sauce, simply mix finely minced Korean chili pepper with mayonnaise and soy sauce. Dip the squid into the sauce and enjoy – it’s the perfect beer accompaniment! Make your mealtime special.
