This Vienna Sausage and Corn Stir-fry is a delightful dish that’s perfect as a side for children’s meals or as a tasty snack to pair with your favorite beer. The savory sausages and sweet, popping corn create a wonderful harmony that will have everyone asking for seconds.
Ingredients
- 180g Vienna sausages
- 150g canned corn, drained
- 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp Tonkatsu sauce (Japanese BBQ sauce)
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare about 180g of Vienna sausages. You can use any type or size you prefer. Score them or cut them into bite-sized pieces to enhance their flavor and make them easier to eat. I found these sausages to be quite large, so I cut them in half. Next time, I might cut them into quarters.
Step 2
Next, drain the canned corn (150g) thoroughly using a sieve. Removing as much moisture as possible is key to achieving a good texture.
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Add the drained corn to the hot pan and stir-fry for about 30 seconds to evaporate any remaining moisture. This step helps to bring out the corn’s natural sweetness and improve its texture.
Step 4
While the corn is being stir-fried, prepare 1 tablespoon of sugar to add a touch of sweetness.
Step 5
Also, get ready 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise. The mayonnaise will act as a binder and add a creamy richness, even serving as a cooking oil later on.
Step 6
Finally, prepare 1 tablespoon of Tonkatsu sauce (or a similar savory Japanese BBQ sauce) for an extra layer of umami flavor.
Step 7
Add the prepared sugar, mayonnaise, and Tonkatsu sauce to the pan with the stir-fried corn. The mayonnaise will melt and coat the corn, while the sugar and Tonkatsu sauce create a delicious glaze. Continue to stir-fry over medium-high heat for about 4 minutes, allowing the moisture to evaporate and the flavors to meld together.
Step 8
Once the corn mixture turns slightly golden brown and most of the moisture has evaporated, add the prepared Vienna sausages to the pan.
Step 9
Stir-fry everything together over medium heat until the sausages are heated through and well-coated with the sauce, which should take about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the sausages, as they can become tough.
Step 10
Transfer the finished Vienna Sausage and Corn Stir-fry to a serving plate. Enjoy it as a delightful side dish with rice, or serve it with a cold beer for a perfect snack. Enjoy your meal!
