Soy Sauce Braised Potatoes Ingredients
  • 1 medium potato
  • 12g green onion (about 1/4 stalk)
  • 0.3 Tbsp minced garlic (1/3 tsp)
  • 2 Tbsp grapeseed oil
  • 0.3 Tbsp sesame oil (1/3 tsp)
  • 50ml water (about 1/4 cup)
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds

Soy Sauce Braised Potatoes Seasoning
  • 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce (for braising)
  • 1.5 Tbsp oligosaccharide

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

① Peel 1 medium potato, rinse it under running water, and then cut it into bite-sized cubes, about 1 to 1.2 cm thick. If you’re making this for children, cutting them slightly smaller will help them cook faster and be easier for kids to eat.

Step 2

② Finely chop the 12g of green onion (about 1/4 stalk) and prepare 0.3 Tbsp (1/3 tsp) of minced garlic.

Step 3

③ Heat 2 Tbsp of grapeseed oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cubed potatoes and stir-fry for about 1 minute, just until the potatoes are lightly coated with oil. This step helps to remove some moisture from the potatoes, allowing them to absorb the sauce better.

Step 4

④ After about 1 minute of stir-frying, add 1.5 Tbsp of soy sauce and 1.5 Tbsp of oligosaccharide. Stir well to coat the potatoes with the seasoning. Continue to cook until the sauce just begins to bubble slightly.

Step 5

⑤ Once the seasoning starts to gently bubble, add 50ml (about 1/4 cup) of water. Stir everything together to combine.

Step 6

⑥ Cover the pan with a lid and reduce the heat to medium-low. Let the potatoes braise for about 6 to 8 minutes, or until they are tender. The exact cooking time may vary depending on the size of your potato pieces.

Step 7

⑦ During the braising process, lift the lid occasionally to stir the potatoes. This prevents them from sticking to the bottom of the pan and burning. Also, check the liquid level and add a little more water if it seems to be drying out too quickly.

Step 8

⑧ After about 6 minutes, test for doneness by piercing the largest potato piece with a toothpick. If it goes in smoothly, the potatoes are cooked. Taste the potatoes and the sauce. If you find it’s not salty enough, add a little more soy sauce. If it’s not sweet enough, add a bit more oligosaccharide to adjust the flavor to your preference.

Step 9

⑨ Once the potatoes are cooked and the seasoning is adjusted, keep the heat on medium-low. Add the 0.3 Tbsp (1/3 tsp) of minced garlic and the chopped green onions. Stir gently to incorporate them.

Step 10

⑩ Finally, drizzle in 0.3 Tbsp (1/3 tsp) of sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Your delicious sweet and savory soy sauce braised potatoes are ready to be enjoyed! Serve warm with rice. ^^
