Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thoroughly wash the chestnuts under running water using a brush to remove any dirt or dust clinging to them. Pat the washed chestnuts dry and prepare them for the next step.

Step 2

Locate the rounded base of each chestnut. Using a sharp knife, carefully make a deep cross (‘+’) shaped cut into this base. This incision prevents the chestnuts from bursting as they cook and makes peeling much easier. Don’t make the cut too shallow; applying a little pressure for a deeper cut is key.

Step 3

Now it’s time to use the air fryer. Place the scored chestnuts in a preheated air fryer and bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 15-20 minutes. The cooking time may vary depending on the size of the chestnuts and your air fryer model. Giving them a gentle shake halfway through will help them cook evenly.

Step 4

Carefully remove the roasted chestnuts from the air fryer and let them cool slightly. Once they are cool enough to handle, peel off the shells, starting from the cut mark. Be cautious not to burn your fingers as they can still be hot. If the shells are difficult to remove, you can briefly reheat them to make peeling easier.

Step 5

Generously drizzle warm honey over the peeled chestnuts. Toss them gently to ensure the honey evenly coats each chestnut, creating your ‘Honey Roasted Chestnuts’. The sweetness of the honey will enhance the nutty flavor of the chestnuts, transforming them into a delightful treat. You can also use corn syrup or maple syrup instead of honey.

Step 6

Arrange the honey-coated chestnuts attractively in a serving bowl. Enjoy them immediately while they are still warm for a wonderfully moist and sweet experience as the honey melts. Remember, failure is the mother of invention! Enjoy your delicious Honey Roasted Chestnuts, born from overcoming a little kitchen mishap!
