Say Goodbye to Frying! ‘Super Simple Baked Sweet Potato Candies’ Recipe Made by Simply Baking
Delicious sweet potato candies, aren’t they just mouth-watering? I personally love them, but the hassle of deep-frying often puts me off making them. Despite their deliciousness… So today, I tried making sweet potato candies without frying. The trick is to slice the sweet potatoes not too thick, then pan-sear them in a lightly oiled pan until golden brown. Finally, we coat them with sugar and corn syrup for a delightful finish. This method eliminates the fuss of frying, making it incredibly simple to prepare. Enjoy this easy-to-make sweet potato treat!
Ingredients
- 2 medium-sized sweet potatoes
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 3 Tbsp corn syrup (oligosaccharide)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Today, we’ll be baking the sweet potatoes with their skins on. Baking with the skin retains a wonderful chewy texture, making them even more delightful. Make sure to wash them very thoroughly! Once clean, slice the sweet potatoes. If they’re too thick, they’ll take a long time to cook; if too thin, they’ll burn easily. Aim for a moderate thickness, around 0.3mm. I’m using two medium sweet potatoes for this recipe.
Step 2
Add a moderate amount of cooking oil to a frying pan. Place the sliced sweet potato rounds in the pan and set the heat to low. Use chopsticks to gently flip the slices, ensuring they turn a nice golden brown on both sides. Because we’re cooking on low heat, it might take a little longer, but it’s definitely less troublesome than frying.
Step 3
Once the sweet potatoes are nicely browned on both sides, turn off the heat. The residual heat from the pan is sufficient from this point on. However, you’ll need to work quickly. Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the sweet potatoes according to your preference. Gently toss or flip the sweet potato slices to coat them evenly with the sugar. Shaking the pan will help the sugar distribute more quickly and evenly.
Step 4
Now, drizzle the corn syrup (oligosaccharide) over the sweet potatoes as desired. Again, keep the heat off! Just like with the sugar, gently toss or flip the sweet potato slices to coat them thoroughly with the corn syrup, giving them a beautiful glaze. And there you have it – super simple sweet potato candies, made with minimal effort!
