Recipe Info

  • Category : Main dish
  • Ingredient Category : Pork
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 head Aged Kimchi, well-fermented
  • 300g Thinly Sliced Pork Belly (Daepae Samgyeopsal)
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1/2 Green Onion (Scallion)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, take your aged kimchi from the fridge and chop it into bite-sized pieces, about 1-2 cm wide. This makes it easier to stir-fry and eat.

Step 2

Heat a pan over medium-low heat and add 2 tablespoons of aromatic perilla oil. Add all the chopped kimchi. To balance the sourness and add flavor, sprinkle in 1 tablespoon of sugar and stir-fry until the kimchi softens and becomes fragrant. You’ll smell a delicious aroma!

Step 3

Once the kimchi starts to smell delicious as it cooks, add the 300g of thinly sliced pork belly. Since it’s thin, it cooks quickly. Stir-fry it together with the kimchi, making sure to separate the slices so they don’t clump together.

Step 4

When the pork belly is about two-thirds cooked and has changed color, add the half onion (sliced) and half green onion (sliced diagonally) to the pan. Stir-fry everything together until the vegetables soften. The onion will release its sweetness, making the dish even more flavorful.

Step 5

Now, for the magic touch of umami: drizzle 1.5 tablespoons of oyster sauce evenly over the ingredients. Continue to stir-fry until the onions become translucent and are fully cooked. The ingredients will combine with the oyster sauce to create a mouth-watering appearance.

Step 6

Just before turning off the heat, sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds for a nutty finish and drizzle 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Adding sesame oil at the end significantly enhances the aroma. Give it one final quick stir to perfectly meld all the flavors.

Step 7

And there you have it! A simple yet incredibly delicious Pork Belly Kimchi Stir-fry. Serve it over a bowl of hot rice, and it’s guaranteed to be a ‘rice thief’! Enjoy it as a simple late-night snack or a hearty side dish. Enjoy your meal! ^^
