Main Ingredients
  • Fresh lettuce 50g (about a handful)
  • Warm cooked rice 1.5 bowls (approx. 200g)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the optional fried egg. Heat 1 Tbsp of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Carefully crack 2 eggs into the pan. Once the egg whites start to set, reduce the heat to low and cook until the yolks are still runny (soft-boiled). This runny yolk will create a wonderful harmony with the bibimbap. You can also cook them to your preference, like well-done.

Step 2

Wash the lettuce thoroughly under running water. Ensure all dirt and debris are removed. After washing, drain the water as much as possible in a colander or gently pat them dry with a paper towel. This step helps prevent the bibimbap from becoming too watery and diluted.

Step 3

In a large bowl, tear or chop the prepared lettuce into bite-sized pieces. Add 200g of warm cooked rice (about 1.5 bowls) on top. If the rice is too hot, the lettuce might wilt too much, so using slightly cooled rice is recommended for a fresher texture.

Step 4

Now it’s time to add the delicious sauce. First, sprinkle 1 Tbsp of sweet and savory Jin-ganjang evenly over the rice and lettuce. Soy sauce alone adds a good depth of flavor.

Step 5

Next, add 1 Tbsp of aromatic sesame oil for a nutty fragrance. Sesame oil plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall taste of the bibimbap.

Step 6

Finally, add 1 Tbsp of Gochujang, the key ingredient for that spicy and sweet kick. Now, use a spoon to gently mix the rice, lettuce, and sauces together until well combined. Be careful not to mix too vigorously, as this can mush the lettuce.

Step 7

Once everything is mixed into a delicious bibimbap, transfer it to a nice bowl or plate for serving. Arranging the rice and lettuce neatly will make it look even more appealing.

Step 8

Carefully place the prepared soft-boiled fried egg on top of the bibimbap. The sight of the runny yolk resting on the rice is sure to make your mouth water.

Step 9

Finally, sprinkle 1 Tbsp of fragrant sesame seeds over the top for an extra nutty flavor and a beautiful finish. Your delicious Gochujang Lettuce Bibimbap is ready to be enjoyed!
