Main Ingredients
- 500ml Anchovy and Kelp Broth
- 2-3 sheets of Square Fish Cakes
- 1/2 stalk of Green Onion
- 1-2 Korean Chili Peppers (Cheongyang peppers)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the foundation of your delicious fish cake stew: the anchovy and kelp broth. In a pot, combine 500ml of water with dried anchovies and kelp. Simmer to create a rich, flavorful broth. (Alternatively, you can use store-bought broth).
Step 2
Let’s make the seasoning paste for that delightful spicy kick! In a bowl, mix together 1 Tbsp gochujang, 3 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 Tbsp sugar, 2-3 Tbsp guk-ganjang, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and a pinch of black pepper until well combined. You can adjust the saltiness by adding more guk-ganjang.
Step 3
Once the broth starts to boil, remove and discard the anchovies and kelp used for flavoring. Also, take out the large pieces of green onion root that were added for aroma, ensuring a clean broth.
Step 4
Add the prepared seasoning paste to the simmering broth and stir well to dissolve it. Your kitchen will soon be filled with a wonderful spicy aroma!
Step 5
As the seasoning dissolves and the broth returns to a simmer, add the fish cakes that have been cut into bite-sized pieces. You can also skewer them with toothpicks for a more authentic street food presentation.
Step 6
Add all the prepared fish cakes to the broth, allowing them to absorb the flavors.
Step 7
Reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the fish cakes are well-infused with the spicy seasoning and the broth has thickened slightly. Stir occasionally to ensure even seasoning.
Step 8
Finally, garnish generously with diagonally sliced green onions and finely chopped Cheongyang peppers for added flavor and visual appeal. Your delicious spicy fish cake stew is ready to be enjoyed while hot!
