Main Ingredients
  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 1 can tuna (150g), drained
  • 1 onion
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 1/2 stalk green onion

Seasoning Ingredients
  • 1 cup water (200ml)
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all the necessary ingredients: 1 block of tofu, 1 onion, 1/2 stalk of green onion, and 1 can of tuna. Having all ingredients ready will make the cooking process much smoother!

Step 2

Drain the oil from the tuna can using a sieve. Slice the green onion diagonally into about 0.5 cm thick pieces. In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of water, 1 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes, and 1 Tbsp of minced garlic. Mix well to create the delicious seasoning sauce in advance.

Step 3

Heat 1 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces and pan-fry until golden brown and slightly crispy on both sides. Pan-frying the tofu beforehand helps it maintain its shape and prevents it from breaking apart during the braising process.

Step 4

In a wider pan, spread the thinly sliced onion across the bottom. Arrange the pan-fried tofu pieces attractively on top of the onions. Then, evenly distribute the prepared drained tuna over the tofu.

Step 5

Layer the remaining sliced onion and the diagonally cut green onion over the tuna. Carefully pour the prepared seasoning sauce over the ingredients in the pan, trying to distribute it evenly. Ensuring the sauce coats everything well is key.

Step 6

Cover the pan and simmer over medium-low heat until the sauce thickens and becomes slightly syrupy, about 10-15 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully. Once the sauce has reduced to your desired consistency, turn off the heat and drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil. This adds a wonderful nutty aroma and enhances the overall deliciousness.

Step 7

Transfer the finished braised tofu with tuna to an attractive serving dish. This dish looks appetizing with its vibrant color and promises a delightful combination of spicy and tender textures – a truly irresistible side dish!

Step 8

Honestly, I didn’t used to be a big tofu fan, but now I’ve completely fallen for its charm! I find myself naturally drawn to the tofu section at the grocery store, and the amount of tofu I cook has gradually increased.

Step 9

With a serving of this delicious braised tofu, a bowl of rice disappears in no time. If you adjust the seasoning to be not too salty, this dish is sure to be a hit with everyone, from children to adults!
