Main Ingredients
  • 10-12 sheets of flat fish cake (approx. 300g)
  • 1 onion (medium size)
  • 1/2 stalk of green onion
  • 1-2 Cheongyang peppers (optional, adjust spiciness)

Seasoning Ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp sunflower oil or cooking oil
  • 4 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce (for umami boost!)
  • 2-3 Tbsp oligosaccharide or corn syrup (adjust sweetness)
  • A little sesame oil (for finishing aroma)
  • A little sesame seeds (for added nuttiness)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the flat fish cakes. Cut each sheet in half lengthwise, then cut them into bite-sized triangular pieces. It’s good to cut them not too small so children can eat them easily. (You can cut them into any shape you like!)

Step 2

Prepare the vegetables. Slice the onion into strips similar in size to the fish cakes, not too thinly. Finely chop the green onion. If you prefer it spicier, remove the seeds from the Cheongyang peppers and mince them.

Step 3

It’s time to stir-fry. Heat a pan over medium heat, add 2 Tbsp of sunflower oil, and sauté the chopped green onion and 1 Tbsp of minced garlic for about 20-30 seconds until fragrant, creating an aromatic green onion oil. Be careful not to burn them.

Step 4

Once the fragrant green onion oil is ready, add the sliced flat fish cakes, the julienned onion, and the prepared Cheongyang peppers to the pan.

Step 5

Now, add the seasoning ingredients: 4 Tbsp soy sauce, 2 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, and 2-3 Tbsp oligosaccharide. Stir well and cook, mixing everything together. Stir-fry over medium heat to allow the seasoning to penetrate the fish cakes. (Adjust the amount of oligosaccharide according to your preferred sweetness!)

Step 6

Continue to stir-fry for about 3-5 more minutes, until the onions become translucent and tender. Finally, turn off the heat and sprinkle with a little sesame oil and a little sesame seeds for a delicious finish.

Step 7

Your spicy, sweet, and savory stir-fried fish cakes are ready! They taste amazing served with freshly steamed hot rice. Make a generous batch, and it’s a great side dish to have on hand. It’s a popular dish for both kids and adults alike!
