Sausage and Vegetable Stir-fry Ingredients
- 1 green bell pepper (seeds removed, diced into 1cm cubes)
- 1/2 red bell pepper (seeds removed, diced into 1cm cubes)
- 1/2 yellow bell pepper (seeds removed, diced into 1cm cubes)
- 1/2 onion (diced into 1cm cubes)
- 240g Vienna sausages (scored like octopus tentacles or in a crosshatch pattern)
- 1.5 Tbsp minced green chili pepper (adjust to your spice preference)
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
Spicy and Sweet Sauce Ingredients
- 80ml water
- 5 Tbsp Heinz ketchup
- 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 80ml water
- 5 Tbsp Heinz ketchup
- 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the sausages by scoring them to resemble octopus tentacles or by making a crosshatch pattern. This helps the sauce penetrate better and makes them look more appealing.
Step 2
Heat about 1 Tbsp of canola oil in a wide pan over medium heat. Add the scored sausages and stir-fry until the ‘tentacles’ curl up and they are nicely browned. Remove the sausages from the pan and set aside in a separate bowl.
Step 3
Add a little more canola oil to the same pan. Stir-fry the diced green bell pepper, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, and minced green chili pepper for about 4 minutes, until they start to soften slightly. Ensure you stir-fry until fragrant.
Step 4
Next, add the diced onion and continue to stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes, or until the onion becomes slightly translucent. Cooking the onion until it’s just tender will bring out its natural sweetness.
Step 5
Now it’s time to make the delicious sauce. Pour 80ml of water into the pan with the vegetables.
Step 6
Add 5 Tbsp of Heinz ketchup, 1 Tbsp of gochujang, and 1 Tbsp of sugar. Whisk everything together with the water until the sauce is smooth and well combined. It’s important to ensure there are no lumps of gochujang.
Step 7
Add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic to the sauce to enhance the flavor. The garlic will add another layer of deliciousness to the dish.
Step 8
Mix the sauce well with the vegetables. Then, add the pre-cooked sausages back into the pan. Let everything simmer together for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to coat the ingredients evenly. Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds to garnish. Your spicy and sweet sausage and vegetable stir-fry is now ready!
